Local T.D. and Minister for Food and Horticulture, Trevor Sargent, is continuing to work in government on extending the Metro North route beyond Lissenhall and meeting up, ideally in Donabate, with the Dublin/Belfast line. In a recent letter to Noel Dempsey, T.D., the Minister for Transport and Marine, Minister Sargent stated
“I am glad to see the Rail Procurement Agency is organising a number of Swords Awareness Evenings to announce developments on Metro North. I am aware that residents of Swords as well as Donabate as well as other communities requiring connectivity would wish that the line of Metro North would connect between Lissenhall and the northern Dublin/Belfast line, most likely at Donabate. I discussed this matter with your predecessor, Minister Martin Cullen, who, in principle, thought it was a good idea.”
Minister Sargent asked Minister Dempsey if any further developments have taken place to suggest that the connection between Metro North and the Dublin/Belfast rail line has progressed any further.
