Green Party members in Dublin North have welcomed the decision by Fingal County Council to seek an alternative site for the Soccer Academy.
Minister for Food and Horticulture Trevor Sargent T.D. said ‘the many groups and individuals who made submissions were very much in favour of the Soccer Academy as it will be a an important future community amenity, but they had concerns that it should not be built in an area already designated as a SPA (Special Protected Area) and a SAC (Special Area of Conservation)’.
Minister Sargent said ‘I have met with the County Manager about this matter. I am assured that the need for sports facilities will continue to be a priority for Fingal County Council, but meanwhile, I am also glad to say that fears about possible negative impacts on the Rogerstown Estuary hinterland have been allayed’.
