Fingal County Council is to erect signs in the vicinity of Portmarnock Beach reminding horse owners to clean up after their horses
Following representations from Minister for Food & Horticulture and local T.D. Trevor Sargent on behalf of residents of Portmarnock in particular, Fingal County Council has agreed to take action to address the problem of fouling by horses on Portmarnock beach and the approaching footpaths.
Commenting, Minister Sargent said ‘following my representations the Environment staff in Fingal County Council are making contact with horse owners to advise them of the requirements of the Bye Laws and the need to keep the seafront free from horse fouling. Currently signs are being designed which will be displayed to remind horse owners to clean up after their horses. The situation is the same for dog owners and dog fouling is specifically mentioned as an offence in the Litter Pollution Act as it is injurious to health – especially where children are playing.’
Minister Sargent welcomed the positive action by Fingal County Council to address this matter and indicated that he would be monitoring the situation to ensure the signs are erected promptly and looks forward to an improvement in the situation.
