SARGENT COMMENDS COUNCIL ON BALBRIGGAN HARBOUR WORK

12 June 2009

Minister for Food & Horticulture Trevor Sargent TD, has paid tribute to the work of Council staff in dealing with a pollution problem in Balbriggan harbour.

Minister Sargent said, ‘I would like to commend the Water Services Department for their prompt response in dealing with the effluent discharged into the harbour this week. They were extremely proactive on this matter and are a credit to Fingal County Council.’

Due to builders’ rubble blocking the sewage pipe, effluent had flowed into the harbour. The council were contacted and acted immediately to unblock the pipe.

In conclusion Minister Sargent said, ‘ I will be monitoring the situation to ensure that these problems do not arise again. I would encourage anyone who has queries on water quality to contact me or the council, as soon as possible.’
