Minister Sargent was reacting to a Garda statement on the matter, following representations made to him from local residents. Superintendent Mark Curran has confirmed that a member from the Community Policing Unit met recently with the local Residents Association and has assured them of their ongoing monitoring of the area.
There were grave concerns regarding two drinking dens constructed within the estate by youths, where evidence pointed to drink and drug use.
Minister Sargent said, ‘I welcome the prompt response from the Gardaí on this matter and hope that these illegal dens can be removed as soon as possible. Exposure to this kind of behaviour should be eliminated, as this is a young estate with a growing population.’
