Work on Swords Castle welcomed by Minister Sargent
Minister for Food and Horticulture Trevor Sargent TD has welcomed confirmation from his colleague Minister John Gormley at the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government that work is finally to begin on demolishing Ryan’s Pub at the end of Swords’ Main Street.
Minister Sargent received the confirmation from the Department of Environment following concerns from constituents who were disappointed with the slow progress of work on site. Work commenced on Thursday 6th. August and is expected to be completed over the weekend.
The Minister said, ‘I understand that the application was referred for assessment under the Planning and Development Act 2000 and further information was sought by way of an Archaeological Impact Assessment in advance of making a decision on the site. Thankfully this has been clarified and work can now begin on making this wonderful castle more visible from the Main Street. This can only be a positive development for Swords.’
