Trevor Sargent TD, Minister for Food and Horticulture, has contacted Fingal County Council regarding the possibility of developing unused land in Applewood, Swords. The Minister recently met with residents of Bramley Terrace in Applewood concerning one such area that has been fenced-off for the last five years, resulting in it becoming derelict and used as a dumping ground.

The Minister said, ‘I have seen at first hand the lack of a safe location for children to play in Applewood. It’s a pity in such a vibrant community that there is no playing area for young people other than the roadway or a bit of grass adjacent to local apartments. I had asked the council to investigate a derelict area at Bramley Terrace with a view to providing a low-cost playing area for local children. Unfortunately, it has transpired that the land in question is privately owned and is not available. I will pursue this matter further with the council, in conjunction with local residents, to ensure a suitable place can be found locally to provide activities for children.’
