Ken Duffy, Swords Ward candidate 2009
I have lived in Swords for 23 years, and for 15 of those years I have been a keen Swords activist. I joined the Green Party 10 years ago, they were the only party that could accommodate my social views and my environmental conscience. I have been married to my wife for 25 years and we have one son.
I am a founder member of the present Swords Community Council and a founder member of the Swords Tidy Towns. It is the hard work of the Tidy Towns membership that is responsible for Swords going from a Litter Black Spot to the success it has achieved to date. I am a member of the Board of Management at one of Swords finest schools, and it has been a great honour for me to do so. I also give of my time each year to The Swords Heritage Society helping out during the annual Swords Heritage festival.
I was a Green candidate in the last Local elections narrowly missing out on a council seat. Since then I have been very active working hard on green and social issues within the Swords Ward. I hope that this coming June you will take on board my contributions to this great community and recognise the need in Fingal for more community orientated Green Councillors.
Issues that I am passionate about and want to tackle but can only do so successfully from within council chambers are: Metro to Swords, Public Transport, Built and Natural Heritage, Sustainable Development, School Places and Class Sizes, Youth Alternative Sports Facilities, The Older members in our Society, Integration, Flooding and the Preservation and Enhancement of Fingal Wildlife Reserves.
